Hello guys,

¿Sabéis lo que son linkers and connectors? Sí, sí que lo sabéis. 'Link', como verbo significa unir y 'connector' significa conector.

Los linkers and connectors son aquellas palabras que sirven para conectar frases con la anterior. Así, os sonarán algunos como:

AND - Y
WELL - BIEN, BUENO
IF - SI (condicional)   If you study, you will pass the exam - Si estudias, aprobarás el examen-
SO - PUES, ENTONCES.
BUT - PERO
ALSO - TAMBIÉN (va a mitad de frase)
TOO - TAMBIÉN
BECAUSE - PORQUE
THEN - ENTONCES
FIRST - PRIMERO

Es importante conocer los conectores porque en hay muchos (I MEAN, A LOT) y son importantes para hablar y comunicarse fluidamente en inglés. Hay muchos tipos: de contraste (Although, in spite of - a pesar de), de consecuencia (For this reason - por esta razón), etc.

De la lista de arriba, intentad poner el conector correcto en cada frase.

1 . My sister has got six dolls _________two teddy bears.
2. I love your dress__________________it is beautiful.
3. __________we  read our lessons ___________we do our homework.
4. My best friend is eleven years old _________I am eleven years old___________ ;
5. _________ !! I don’t know the answer !
6. I want to go back home _______________I am very tired.
7. _________you work hard , you can get good marks at your tests.
8. Sam is from London,____________he is English.
9. My parents have got a Ford Fiesta___________they __________have got  a Fiat Uno.
10. ____________we can have hamburgers with chips, __________ice cream for desert
11.You must hurry up __________________ you are late !
12. My brother likes video games ___________he hates board games.
13. My dad can drive you to school this morning  _________you want,__________he can take you home ____________.
14. ___________we can visit the Eiffel Tower, ____________we can go to the Louvre , finally we can ______________go to the Picasso museum.
15. I have a lot of work these days ___________I can’t go to the cinema now.
16. __________you eat too much chocolate, you are going to be sick !
17. I can’t help you now __________________I must finish my homework.
18. « Do you know Mr Brown ? » - «  _________ , not really, ________________he is not my teacher.

19. _________James wants a mobile,  some money ________new clothes for Christmas.

En la próxima videollamada repasaremos algunas frases y connectors, seguiremos trabajando en algo de pronunciación y el listening.

See you then!

ÓSCAR, MONDAY 4th MAY 2020, LX 18:15

Hello, guys! How is it going?

For our next video call, we'll be doing (or at least trying) a full conversation class. On what topic? you must be wondering...

Being completely honest, my first intention was to address you a reading, but since I can't trust you to do that on your own, I thought a video with a particular report would be more suitable for you. Have you heard of Ramadan?

Here are the instructions: I want you to click on the link, and before playing the video, read the article beside it. DO NOT LOOK FOR ANY VOCABULARY, BUT WRITE DOWN THOSE WORDS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. This applies to both THE ARTICLE AND THE VIDEO. Write them down and check if by the end of the video or by its context you can guess what does that means. You will find words like fasting, seasoning, starving...

RAMADAN AND CORONAVIRUS - BBC NEWS

We will go over the video on Wednesday, be prepared, please!

Miss you guys.

Att: BEST. TEACHER. EVER.

ÓSCAR, MONDAY 4th MAY 2020, LX 16:15 and 17:15, MJ 17:15

Hello merluz@s! ¡Ya no queda casi nada! Pronto volveremos todos a vernos.

Hoy vamos a ver uno de los verbos modales más importantes: SHOULD / SHOULDN'T.

¿No sabéis lo que es un modal verb? Sí, sí que lo sabéis. De hecho, ya conocéis alguno. Por ejemplo, CAN es un modal verb.

Los verbos modales son aquellos verbos que siempre tienen que ir acompañados de otro verbo, no pueden ir acompañados de un nombre. For example:

I CAN COOK
Yo puedo cocinar

I CAN DO MY HOMEWORK
Yo puedo hacer mis deberes

I CAN TABLE
Yo puedo mesa
(no tiene sentido)

Por eso SHOULD / SHOULDN'T, que significa DEBERÍA / NO DEBERÍA siempre tiene que ir acompañado de un verbo. For example:

HE SHOULD PAY MORE ATTENTION
Él debería prestar más atención

YOU SHOULDN'T GO OUTSIDE
No deberías ir afuera

So easy!

Ahora, intentad rellenar correctamente con SHOULD o SHOULDN'T las siguientes frases.

1. If Alice has earache, she ____________ go swimming today.

2. You ____________ go out if you have a bad cold.
3. Jill has a high fever. We __________ take her the doctor.
4. When you go to the beach, you _________ always use sun cream.
5. Mark is always coughing. Yes, he __________ give up smoking.
6.  Your son __________ eat so much fast food, he will put on a lot of weight.
7.  We ____________ visit grandmother until the coronavirus is under control.
8. Jade has a broken leg, she ___________ walk anywhere for weeks.
9. Bob fell off the ladder on his head, I think he _________ have an X-ray taken.
10. Dan has a terrible headache. He _________ take an aspirin and rest for a while.
      11. Paul has had a toothache since yesterday. I think he ________ go to the dentist.

      12. If you have backache you ______________ carry that heavy bag to work.

      13. Ali sits too close to the TV. I think she __________ have her eyes checked.

      14. If you have a cold you __________ blow your nose with a tissue and throw it away.

      15. Our daughter _____________ go to school, because she has chicken pox.

That's all! En nuestra próxima videollamada repasaremos el zero article (que se que os lió un poco) y repasaremos esto. See you!

ÓSCAR, TUESDAY 21st APRIL, 16:15 - 17:15 and 18:15 - 19:15

Hello guys!

Como vimos el jueves pasado en la videollamada, hoy vamos a hacer repaso de EITHER AND NEITHER.

First of all, how is this pronounced? It can be either /aider/ or* /ider/, and /nider/ or /naider/

These two words can have multiple meanings, depending on each situation. Let's start with one which, curiously, has already appeared in this post:

-Either...or*: -o bien... o bien...-, -tanto...como...-. For example:

We can either take a train or a bus. Both are perfectly fine.

-Neither...nor: -ni...ni tampoco-. For example:

I have neither the time or the patience to listen to your lies.No tengo ni el tiempo ni la paciencia para oír tus mentiras.

Neither one nor the other. Ni lo uno ni lo otro.

-Either and neither: Ambas significan 'tampoco'. RECORDAD QUE EN INGLÉS NO SE PUEDE NEGAR DOS VECES, por eso either se usa en las frases negativas y neither en las frases afirmativas.

I don't want to go!
Me neither!   o   Neither do I!

I have never been to Turkey.
I haven't been there either   o   Neither have I.

También se pueden traducir por 'culaquiera de los dos' o 'ninguno'.

There are houses on either side of the river.

Neither of us has to go to school tomorrow.

Aquí os dejo unos ejercicios para que repaséis:

On the corner
En la esquina

That's all guys, see you on our next videocall!

ÓSCAR, MONDAY 20th APRIL, 18:15 - 19:15

Hello guys, how's everything?

Let's come to the point: today's task is pretty basic. We are gonna focus on pronunciation. In the following you're going to see up to 100 hundred words and its pronunciation, which usually lead to a mistake. Furthermore, the meaning appears along with the word. I'll ask you some of them on our next videocall.

But that's not all. Do you remember when we went over the collocations of make and do? Well, there are many more collocations in English with some other words, like take, give, go, etc. For some of them, you can rephrase or use other words, but some of them are very basic and restrictive. So, instead of learning every collocation in one go, we will learn some of them every week. We will start with GO:

Collocations en inglésCollocations en español
‘Go bankrupt’
'Go crazy'
‘Ir a la bancarrota’
'Volverse loco'
‘Go missing’
'Go to a gig'
‘Desaparecido/ Extraviado’
'Ir a un bolo (concierto)'
‘Go astray’‘Extraviarse/ Ir por mal camino’
‘Go bald’‘Quedarse calvo’
‘Go bad’‘Pudrirse/ Echarse a perder’
‘Go overseas’‘Irse al extranjero’
‘Go on foot’‘Ir a pie’ Ir andando’
‘Go quiet/ Silent’‘Ir tranquilo’
‘Go shopping’‘Ir a comprar’ (como puedes ver por ‘Do the shopping’, hay collocations en inglés con significados muy similares).

That's all, see you on wednesday!
