Como vimos el jueves pasado en la videollamada, hoy vamos a hacer repaso de EITHER AND NEITHER.

First of all, how is this pronounced? It can be either /aider/ or* /ider/, and /nider/ or /naider/

These two words can have multiple meanings, depending on each situation. Let's start with one which, curiously, has already appeared in this post:

-Either...or*: -o bien... o bien...-, -tanto...como...-. For example:

We can either take a train or a bus. Both are perfectly fine.

-Neither...nor: -ni...ni tampoco-. For example:

I have neither the time or the patience to listen to your lies.No tengo ni el tiempo ni la paciencia para oír tus mentiras.

Neither one nor the other. Ni lo uno ni lo otro.

-Either and neither: Ambas significan 'tampoco'. RECORDAD QUE EN INGLÉS NO SE PUEDE NEGAR DOS VECES, por eso either se usa en las frases negativas y neither en las frases afirmativas.

I don't want to go!
Me neither!   o   Neither do I!

I have never been to Turkey.
I haven't been there either   o   Neither have I.


También se pueden traducir por 'culaquiera de los dos' o 'ninguno'.

There are houses on either side of the river.

Neither of us has to go to school tomorrow.
